Nardo

I honestly haven’t found a flower I loved as much as the Pikake until today.

It’s Mexican and quite frankly, I’ve never seen it before. It’s called Nardo. Can’t tell you why other than I just wasn’t into flowers… or food for that matter… when I lived in Mexico before.

From the lily family, this flower reminded me of when I lived in Hawaii and use to hang Pikake Leis on my doorknobs. Five minutes later and the house was infused with its heavenly scent and hung around for days.

As always in Mexico, there is a religious connection.

Some pictures of St. Joseph depict him with a staff with a flower on top. Most of the time the ones toward the bottom are in bloom and those at the top are closed just like the ones I bought today.

The entire bunch was 30 pesos at the market or $2.35. The girl that sells me flowers cannot understand why I give her a tip every time I buy them. Our little secret that you can’t even buy a single flower in the states that cheap.

Buen Apetito!
